Pros
gives administrators an idea of whether or not their teachers are following prescribed curriculum
helps administrators create a 3 year plan (or long term plan) for the school
helps administrators fulfill their obligation to the achievement contract they have with the government
positive results reflect well on teaching and learning in their schools
administrators can use positive results as a recruitment tool (particularly in the independent school system)
Cons
creates a toxic climate for staff and students
creates a nightmare for administrators to get computer lab ready for students, (Examples:"shortcuts" to government testing sites need to be placed on desktops, all computers must be working, computer lab schedule must be changed to accommodate testing,)
during computer component of testing, (which is given by administrators), administrators must be techno-savvy to troubleshoot possible network and hardware problems
puts administrators in an awkward position between government, parents and staff where they sometimes feel like they have to choose side
further alienates the principals from the teachers. Does NOT support a collaborative environment.
have to contact the parents who have signed letters (teacher union letters) requesting that their child be exempt from writing the FSAs
